Hernia

It occurs when the internal organs make their way through the cavity walls holding the organs. This disease is commonly found around the abdominal region. There is a thick layer of muscular tissues around individual organ that holds internal organs such as intestines and stomach at their exact place. Due to the weakening of these muscular tissues, organs are able to break from these holding muscles.

Causes of Hernia:

The main reason of this disease is the weakening of muscular walls. If this disease is common in the family history, then chances are high that a family member is going to be affected by hernia. Children in poor conditions may even suffer from hernia because of absence of certain essential nutrients. It is an extremely painful disease when organs such as intestines bulge out from the abdominal wall.

Some conditions such as pregnancy or dyschezia cause intra-abdominal pressures to increase, hence the risk of abdominal hernia increases. This can even lead to increase in intracranial pressure that causes some parts of the brains to pass signals through the cranial cavity.

Signs and Symptoms:

As the intensity of this disease increases, the walls of the muscles around the organs are unable to develop. The organs bulge out through the walls of abdomen, and symptoms would appear, e.g. coughing, heavy lifting or exerting to have a bowel like movement.

Usually it is difficult to identify the symptoms of hernia. The most prominent symptom of this disease is lump formation. The size of the lump can be similar to that of the grape and this lump can be found in the internal side of your thighs or in groin. The lump is usually produced in femoral hernia. Symptoms may differ in ventral hernia. That depends on how intense the disease is. When ventral hernia is severe then the lump is prominent in stomach, but in milder cases this lump is hardly noticeable to anyone.

Treatment:

There is no guarantee that these organs can be reworked back to their original position without any surgical operation. Hernia is also caused by engaging in strenuous sports. A sports person should consult with physiotherapist for the treatment, if it occurs. Treatment includes strengthening of muscles and complete bed rest until the disease is completely cured. Doctors may advise the patient to follow a rehabilitation program where rapid twisting movements are controlled with major focuses on making the pelvic muscles flexible which results the organs to return back to their original position. In extreme cases; you may have to go through a surgical progress.

Para-esophageal hernia symptoms require treatment that is fairly complicated. The procedure would force the stomach into the abdomen cavity with the esophagus securely tied to the diaphragm. Conversely, the Hiatus hernia involves the sliding of organs, which hardly causes problem but contributes in producing excessive acid. Thus, the hiatus hernia’s treatment is similar to that of gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD). During the surgery, the upper portion of the stomach is tied around the base of the sphincter to improve the pressure at sphincter so that excessive production of the acid can be prevented.
